Yohann started playing in a ballroom orchestra and dancing socially in the early 90s in Normandy. Later, he took his first Argentinian Tango steps with teacher Yazmin Burel from Buenos Aires.
When moving to Leeds in 2000, he met Janeen as she was starting the first weekly Tango class at Leeds University with Frank Smith from Manchester. In September 2001, he started a class in York with Janeen and took over from Frank in Leeds in 2003. Over the years, Yohann has taught weekly classes in many other towns and cities across the North including Sheffield, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Thirsk, and was the resident Argentine Tango teacher at the Yorkshire Dance Centre.
As a leading exponent of Argentine Tango in Yorkshire and beyond, Yohann performed at several prestigious venues including the West Yorkshire Playhouse, The Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds Town Hall, Leeds College of Music (The Venue), Wilton's Music Hall, London and at several more locations and events.
Yohann is also an experienced Tango DJ, playing at small and large milongas and events alike, include the Dublin and London Tango Festivals.
Over the years, Yohann has developed his own teaching methodology in harmony with the essence of the dance, incorporating the best from his 17-year experience teaching and taking master classes.
Besides making learning to dance fun, his classes focus on good posture, walk and connection as enablers of the dance and
aim to develop the leaders' ability to improvise whilst giving followers the confidence to embellish the dance.
Yohann is a licentiate member of the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing and Kindred Arts, specialising in Argentine Tango.
